What is Family Camp?
Family Camp occurs every August long weekend and is a long-standing Camp Wannakumbac tradition. What started many years ago as an "open house", Family Camp as carried on with that tradition and is now a time for family and friends to get together each year.
Alumni bring their families and friends to join in on the magic here! Past staff love to come back and enjoy reminiscing. Each year we also have new people join and keep returning year after year. Everyone can attend whether you have been at camp or not! Family Camp weekend is about building connections through different generations and backgrounds, Everyone is welcome!
What is offered at Family Camp?
Family Campers either park their camper trailers (with electrical and non-electrical sites available), set up their tents all around camp, or book a cabin (both smaller - sleeps 2 and dorm-style - sleeps 12 are available depending on your group size). Some families also join us for either for the day, either Saturday or Sunday or both.
Family Campers can choose to participate in their preferred meals throughout the weekend. The Saturday and Sunday BBQ's are long-standing favorites!
Family Campers can choose to participate in the weekend program or just enjoy time on their own. There are activities and events for all ages that can include: campfires each night, a sing-song, volleyball tournament, variety show, dance, worship service, baseball game, and more! Throughout the weekend, there are also specific times for children and youth to join activities offered by our counsellors, if they wish. At designated times, Family Campers have access to equipment like canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes, staff supervision at the waterfront, etc.
Family Camp allows families and friends to explore the wonder of Riding Mountain National Park including hikes through deep forests, rolling hills, and marshes. The Lake Audy Bison Compound and Wasagaming are close-by.
