2025 Counsellor In Training (CIT) Level 1 and 2 (Ages 16+)
Camp Wannakumbac's Counsellor In Training (CIT) program is tailored for youth (Ages 16+) and was developed almost 30 years ago (in 1988). The program has been successfully training youth in leadership roles ever since. The experiences that are gained from this program are immeasurable.
Why become a CIT? For Fun, Friends, and Learning (our motto) and to strengthen the youth's portfolio with life experiences that will shape their future with success:
- Personal growth, independence, and responsibility.
- Leadership opportunities and experience in youth development.
- Opportunities to co-teach archery, arts & crafts, canoeing/kayaking, dance, drama, environmental science, fishing, guitar/ukulele, hiking/orienteering, media, mountain biking, photography, snorkeling, theatre-sports, waterfront recreational games and sports, wilderness survival, yoga, and more.
- Life-long friendships and lasting memories.
- With over 55 hours of work-experience and volunteerism, you can apply these hours towards your high school credits like Career Development, Community Service, or Work Experience (with prior approval of your Principal).
- And finally, potential employment at Camp Wannakumbac in future summers.
There are two CIT Levels:
In each level, there are several sessions that are offered to CITs to deepen their understanding of child development, leadership, teaching and camp operations. At the end of the week, CITs are provided with a certificate of completion and an evaluation that you may choose to use a reference for future employment.
Level 1:
The CIT1 acts alongside Program Resource Staff. By this experience, they learn how camp operates, learn how to co-teach activities, and co-supervise groups of campers throughout the program.
CIT1 accommodations will be with other CITs in a dorm-style room in one of our staff cabins. For that reason, each CIT week will have a single-sex, to be determined once we confirm your spot.
CIT1 is offered in Weeks 5 (July 16-22) and 6 (July 23-29) for campers' ages 10-13.
Level 2:
The CIT2 acts alongside the Cabin Counsellors in providing co-leadership and supervising a cabin group of 12 campers, They will also co-teach activities, and co-supervise groups of campers throughout the program.
As CIT2, and because you are co-counselling a cabin, your accommodations are within a cabin of campers. Both female and male CITs can attend either week.
CIT2 is offered in Weeks 3 (July 16-22) and 4 (July 23-29) for campers' ages 8-11.
Note:
1. CITs are expected to arrive by 10:00 am on the Wednesday start of the of their week and leave the following Tuesday evening.
2. Only after the application is approved, will there be an additional form to complete. The cost of the program is $200.00, which is to be paid at that time.
Beginning March 1, we will be adding a form to this page for interested youth to apply.
While a full resume is not required, we are asking CIT applicants for a brief letter of introduction that explains a little about themselves and why they are interested in being a Counsellor In Training.
